The SetGrip Watch app is built as a remote control for the iPhone app rather than as a second, independent database. That keeps both devices perfectly in sync, and it has one consequence: the iPhone has to be reachable.
In practice that means the phone can stay in your pocket, in your bag or on a bench across the gym. What it cannot do is stay at home. If the connection drops mid-workout, the Watch keeps showing your routine and every action you take is queued and applied the moment the iPhone is back in range.
- On the Watch: start a routine, log weight and reps, mark sets done, run and adjust rest timers, see live heart rate and active calories, finish the workout.
- Needs the iPhone: creating or editing routines, browsing the full exercise catalog (the Watch shows the exercises in your routines), viewing history and statistics.
Heart rate and active energy come from the Watch's own workout session through Apple Health, and the finished workout is saved to Apple Health once, without duplicates. Requirements: watchOS 26 and an iPhone running SetGrip on iOS 26. More on the Apple Watch page.
