Questions about SetGrip, answered plainly
Every answer below is checked against the current app. Short answer first, details after, no marketing.
Getting started
- Does SetGrip need an account?
No. SetGrip has no sign-up, login, email or password. You open the app and start logging. Your workouts are stored on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud.
- Does SetGrip work offline?
Yes. Logging sets, rest timers, personal records, statistics, the full exercise library with videos, Apple Watch logging and CSV/JSON export all work with no internet connection.
- Does SetGrip sync with Apple Health?
Yes, and only with your permission. Finished workouts are saved to Apple Health as strength-training workouts. During an Apple Watch workout SetGrip reads heart rate and active energy to show them live. It does not read any other Health data.
- Which devices and iOS versions does SetGrip support?
iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and Apple Watch with watchOS 26 or later as a companion. There is no iPad, Mac, Android or web version. The app is available in English, German, French, Japanese, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian.
- What set types, rest timers and records does SetGrip track?
Sets can be normal, warm-up, drop or to-failure, with targets for weight, reps, time and distance and supersets of two or more exercises. Each exercise has its own rest timer with an end chime, haptics and a background notification. Eight kinds of personal record are detected automatically, including estimated 1RM.
Your data
- How do I export my SetGrip workout data?
Open Settings, tap Data, then Export Workout Data, and choose CSV Spreadsheet or JSON Backup. The file opens in the iOS share sheet so you can save it to Files, AirDrop it or send it anywhere. Export is free.
- Where is my SetGrip workout data stored? Does it sync with iCloud?
On your iPhone, and in the private iCloud database of your Apple ID. iCloud sync is on whenever iCloud is enabled on the phone. It is what moves your routines and history to a new iPhone and, in the future, to other devices. SetGrip has no server of its own.
- Can I import my workouts from Strong, Hevy or a CSV file into SetGrip?
Not yet. SetGrip can export your history as CSV or JSON, but it has no import feature, so a switch from Strong, Hevy or a spreadsheet starts with an empty history. Routines are quick to rebuild from the 1,151-exercise library.
- How do I delete all my SetGrip data?
Settings → Data → Delete All Data, then confirm with Delete Everywhere. This permanently removes every routine, workout and record from your iPhone, from your private iCloud and from your other SetGrip devices once they sync. Workouts already saved to Apple Health stay in Health.
Apple Watch
- Does the SetGrip Apple Watch app work without the iPhone?
Partly. You start and finish workouts, log sets and run rest timers from the wrist, with live heart rate and calories, but the Watch app is a companion: it needs your iPhone within Bluetooth or Wi-Fi range. Sets logged while the iPhone is unreachable are queued and applied as soon as it reconnects.
Free and Premium
- What is free in SetGrip and what does Premium add?
Free: unlimited workouts and history, up to 3 routines, the full 1,151-exercise library with videos, rest timers, supersets, personal records, the Apple Watch app, Live Activity, Apple Health and CSV/JSON export. Premium ($4.99 a month, $29.99 a year with a 1-week free trial, or $99.99 lifetime) adds unlimited routines, per-exercise statistics, weekly muscle-group set zones, plateau insights and the request board.
Exercises
- How many exercises does SetGrip have, and can I add my own?
1,151 exercises across 7 muscle groups, 37 muscles and 30 equipment types, each with a looping video demonstration, step-by-step instructions, difficulty and primary and secondary muscles. Custom exercises cannot be created yet. Missing ones can be requested on the Premium request board.
